This isn't just an article about how to leave Instagram, it's also an ad for an alternative social media network.

The alternative to social media is not more social media. We could all do with less of it.

OP here - agreed. I was rarely posting anyways. I'm personally replacing it with reading even more than A/SIDE. There are just some times I want to share something with friends and family and not fumble with iMessage.

Instagram quietly removed E2E end encryption from DMs last week. Wrote this for people who've been looking for a reason to leave.

Too many steps. Honestly just delete your account, the app and forget about it. After a few days the people who matter will text you or find a way to reach you and that's it.

OP here - also agreed! A/SIDE is for a middle ground/corner case, at least for me.

Yeah, I left Facebook a decade back. Zero issues keeping in touch with folks that mattered. On the rare occasion I need to find someone I lost for something, it's been trivial.

AI slop, it's obvious from the text, but just for the confirmation from Pangram (they have an extremely low false positive rate):

Also it's very funny that they say "No AI training" and "Off big tech" on the home page, yet the landing page and the blog post are clearly entirely LLM-written

Edit: https://lab1908.com/ "Lab 1908 is a small product studio in Saint Paul, Minnesota. We design and build software — most of it AI-native, all of it shipped — for our own portfolio and a handful of partners."

AI absolutely was used to help build and maintain this. (OP here)
