    Mostly just BS excuse-making.

The Camry, Corolla, Accord and Civic are all selling in roughly the same numbers as they did before the SUV craze. Because they are honest, dependable vehicles. You get exactly what you paid for, and they don't cost a lot of money to keep on the road for a long time. None of them have attractive styling, and only the Civic has any real character to it.

According to the author's own words, Cadillac took a great chassis and saddled it with a truck-based engine, a truck-based transmission, and a bunch of technology that very few people actually use on a regular basis. No amount of beautiful styling (yes, it is an attractive design) will overcome these issues and lack of character, especially at the price they want to charge.

If you want fast, boring, and tons of tech you are going to buy an EV. ICE vehicles have to be some good combination of cost-effective, useful, fun.
